Subscription Box Fun

Subscription Box Fun

Just before I began this blog I became interested in subscription boxes.  So they will most likely be my focus while the fun lasts.
There are a good many subscription boxes to choose from and as fun money allows I will be trying out several of these boxes and offering my opinions.  You may have noticed that I have already tried a few and I have several others set up to ship over the next few months.  Here is a list of Sub Boxes that I have either tried, will try, or I am thinking of trying.

Out Of the Box Sampler (The Bodacious Bigger Box)

Since I started this sample box exploration I've seen many different kinds.  Some are a bit more obscure, or they seem that way to me, because I find them in odd places.  Not something that just pops up in my browser ads like Birchbox , Ipsy Glam Bag, or Julep Maven.  Out of the Box Sampler is not a monthly renewal box it's one of the handful of first come first serve boxes I've seen.  Their aim each month is to "put together boxes filled to the brim with 17-18 (and sometimes more) different businesses' samples for you to enjoy.  The boxes overflow with items like melts, scrubs, bath, body, tarts, candles, gourmet foods, jewelry, coupons, discounts, cards and much more from some of the best e-tailers on the web."  Supposedly so we don't have to sift through the gazillion online retailers of hand crafted goods to find the best.  That makes sense, Etsy alone gives me panic attacks.  Each monthly box has a theme and they let you know what those themes are ahead of time.  The August Box, which I received was themed "Flip Flop Beach Box" and was sponsored by Slippery Slope Soaps.  Below I have included the box themes through the remainder of the year.  They have the 2014 themes up on their website as well.

~SEPTEMBER 2013~ Think Pink Breast Cancer Awarenss Sampler
~OCTOBER 2013~ Ghosts, Goblins & Ghouls Halloween Box
~OCTOBER 2013~ Additional Gobs Of Goodies (all edibles box)
~NOVEMBER 2013~ Lovin' From The Oven Bakery Scented Box
~DECEMBER 2013~ Whoville Holiday Sampler

Not only does this site allow the purchase of 3 different sizes of boxes, it also invites anyone who would like to participate in any particular months sampler box to send in samples of their handmade goods to be included in the boxes.  Great advertisement for these businesses.

Overall I really enjoyed receiving this box.  First off, I ordered the box late on the 7th of August and received it early on the 9th of August...very fast shipping!  There were some really awesome samples in size, quantity and quality, there were some mediocre samples, samples that were without a doubt samples, samples that definitely were not family friendly, and, to be honest, some samples that I have yet to discover what their purpose is or even what they are, like I have no idea!  I will endeavor to visit the sites of the more confusing samples in hopes of finding something that will clue me in to what it is they sent.

Here is an overhead photo of everything that came in the box!

I will try to add the links to every shop that has an item pictured here and possibly a close-up of the item with that link.

First Stitch Fix and Pics

I decided to take a stab at a clothing/style box.  It couldn't hurt too bad could it?  I signed up with Cake Style and Stitch Fix.  Cake Style has a waiting list (and their items are very expensive) Stitch Fix on the other hand had my box here within a week!  Stitch Fix requires a $20 styling fee and if you choose to keep an item, that fee is put toward the item or items you get.  You get 3 days to choose from the 5 items and send back your unwanted items...If you choose to buy everything you get a 25% discount.

So here is my Stitch Fix experience in pictures :)

The Box!

Inside you get a letter and item list.  Each piece of clothing comes with a nifty card that explains the item on one side and on the other they show you pictures of how to style the item.  (This is an EPIC feature for a girl like me who ends up with no time to figure what to put with what)

Olive Fit & Flare Ponte Dress by Black Swan
I really loved the color on this dress and the fabric was sturdy.  I'm doing my best to look, how can I say it,....'not awkward', because that is so how I felt.  It was definitely too short especially with such a huge flare.  Also, this dress was not made to accommodate women with broad shoulders.  I had to stand just right so that it wasn't apparent.  If I raised my arm even a little you would have seen mini batwings along with an eyeful of things you wouldn't want to see because that simple act hikes up the skirt of the dress another 2 and 1/2 inches.  If the shoulders were not such a snug fit that might not happen.  This will be in the return box.

Pascal Watercolor Rose Print Dress by Tulle
Ok...This dress is awesome.  Perfect color, great print, perfect fit, loving the high collar, feels great...But...I must have forgotten to mention in my style profile that I extremely dislike, I mean reaaally don't like, wrap dresses, skirts, shirts, whatever...I get it, they are perfect for my body type.  However, they are horrible for my mental health.  Everyone, apparently, can just grab their wrap dresses out of the closet, throw it on and go...easy, no fuss.   That's what I hear anyway.  My Mother started buying these when I was a teenager (and she LOVED this one btw) and I have spent hours trying to figure out which way went where and did I have it the right way.  It just isn't worth it.  If this dress came in the the same color, print, and cut sans the whole wrap part I'd love it.

Ivy Zig-Zag Print Tab-Sleeve Blouse by 41 Hawthorn
I was really surprised by this blouse.  I kind of liked it.  I loved how the back is longer than the front and I like that you can wear the sleeves 3 different ways.  The day I tried it on was very hot and humid out and the blouse was hot!  This one will be returned with the first two.

Abrianna Longsleeve Knit Cardigan by 41 Hawthorn
This was my favorite piece out of all the clothing items.  I love anything I can layer and easily take off if I get hot.  This is very high on my maybe list.

Diamond Shape Hammered Earrings by Rachel Eva
I was gushing over these earrings.  They are perfect and also make the maybe list.

That leaves me with the decision  of whether to get the Cardigan, the earrings, or both.

This is the item list with prices that you receive in your package it shows you the cost of each item and if you choose to buy all 5 pieces and gives you your total price - the styling fee and with the 25% off.

All in all it was a pretty neat experience.  I should probably make some style profile changes in hopes the next stitch fix will have more of what I'm looking for.

July Birch Box

Birch Box
July
Kinda bummed you don't get full size on the Bobby Pins I would have loved to have the blue and gray too.  I'll Review the products as I use them.

Benefit Girl Meets Pearl

Birchbox Bobby Pins - Set of Six

BENTA BERRY G-1 Moisturizing Face Cream

Number 4 Super Comb Prep & Protect
Review:
I'm one of those unruly hair people...I'm always searching for the perfect detangling product.  I was surprised at how well it worked given that with my hair trial sizes generally are not enough to give me a good indication of what the product can do.  I liked it for the most part...the smell was not one that meshed well with my nose (Though I don't think it actually stinks, it just doesn't work with my nose right out of the shoot)

100% Pure Nourishing Body Cream

Whats in my Beauty Army Box for July!?

First Beauty Army Box

Received my first Beauty Army Box...Pics and review soon.

Noticed something neat

I actively work on black light productions throughout the year and as I was working on painting some props that require a black light to be on I noticed that the Julep Eden nail polish I was wearing is UV reactive...Pretty cool (and handy) thing for a girl like me to notice!

Julep Maven Box Review

I've tried out the colors I received in my Julep Box as well as the Rock Star Hand Cream sample that came with it.  I like the polish fairly well.  It dries fast and the bottle shape is by far my favorite.  The colors were Eden (deep purple), Stefani (shimmery gray), Bunny (shimmery white).  Of the three colors Stefani takes the prize it went on smoothly and looks the greatest...the color goes well with everything and it has a glossy finish.  Bunny also has a glossy finish, unlike Eden which dries matte and takes on a whole new life when a topcoat is added.  As far as the Rock Star Hand Cream sample goes, it was not my favorite to have ever tried.  I have very dry sensitive skin and my hands drank in more moisture than the cream had to give and they were left itchy afterward.  The scent, at first, I thought was going to be ok...a very light sweet floral aroma...I was wrong...For my sensitive skin and nose it just didn't work.  I have read other reviews on this cream and most everyone gives it 4 to 5 stars, so if you don't have highly sensitive skin and nose I suppose it could be a great addition to your hand care regimen.  If you are like me I wouldn't recommend it.
